Today’s Faves – Hot To Trot

I read with interest, a blog post from one of my favourite Second Life bloggers, Strawberry Singh. She was blogging the release of a new Bento riding horse by Water Horse, and you can read all about it here. I was enthralled! The horse moved so perfectly, and can be purchased in either an English saddle version, or a Western saddle version. Textures can be changed via a HUD, so you can customise the various parts of the body, main, tail, eyes, and saddle, to get the horse of your dreams. I have to give a very big thank you to Strawberry’s blog post, because in it, she wrote that if you join the WH Group you can get a 10% discount off the cost of the horses! That was music to my ears, and I am so happy I read that before I bought my horse!

I knew exactly what colour my horse would be, what name he would have, and I also had a very clear idea of what I wanted to wear. So first, I went shopping for an outfit, flat boots were my first priority, and I found a fabulous pair by COCO, that also included the white pants, perfect! I also found COCO made an equestrian jacket too, so I bought that. They both looked great together. I couldn’t find the sort of riding hat I wanted, but decided to go a little retro with a cute little riding top hat from TVC. It was a Halloween themed hat I bought many years ago, but is now getting a new lease of life! I teamed the hat with a cute updo hair I bought from [elikatira] in their recent cut price sale.

The horse came with a starter textures box, and this was one of the selections I chose.

Addicted to Doe!

I have to confess I am utterly addicted to Doe Hairs! My first one was bought around Christmas, it is called Twinkle, and I featured it on my last Today’s Faves post. I am now pleased to say that I have several of their styles, and love them all. They have an amazing way of making one hairstyle look totally different with the use of their many amazing colour HUDs. You could buy a brown pack, and go for a sophisticated look, or, change it up, and use a colourful pack to make a fun two tone look.

They seem to sell them mostly via a gacha system, so you can take pot luck, or, go check out Tuppi’s Treasures on the Marketplace, and buy your favourite colour choice. The Marketplace is also likely to be the only place you can buy some of the styles, if the event they were featured at has now finished.

Doe Set One

I love this Twinkle (twotone) Pastel version, complete with the adorable bun lights. The lights can be worn or not, as seen in my Twinkle Twinkle post. I had not realised that there was a HUD for the lights (accessories) until I took the photos for this post! Each side of the lights can be changed to one of several different options, with glow on/off. You can have static lights or blinking lights. Just adorable!

Sombr V2 is shown in the Essentials Rare option. V2 has the hair clips and coloured strands in the style, which can be changed in the accessories colour HUD. I wore a pinky version in this Time For A Workout? post.

Jink (twotone) Gingers, and Lovestruck (solid) Candy Rare, are styles with bunches, one with bangs, one with a side parting. Jink is a two tone, so each side can be coloured separately. Lovestruck Candy is the solid pack, so all the hair changes as one.

I Think I Found Something For Everyone!

The last few weeks have seen me gathering a fantastic stash of great make ups,  maybe I just noticed more of it at the various vendors?

Here are some very pretty festive eyeshadows. These are by alaskametro, from a recent gacha. There are three sets in this Gala collection, from the top down, set 1, set 2, and set 3 (rare). I would love to say I have a favourite one, but I can’t. I think at a quick glance I loved the red 3 colour version in the middle, but seriously, when you try these on, you will quickly see how the depth of colours and details really do shine through. I thought the red and green from set 2 were a great choice for the typical Christmas red and green outfits.

I first started using alaskametro make ups with my standard SL body, and they were the first brand I went to when I got my Catwa Mesh Head. In fact, I didn’t realise that one of the make ups I already had was Catwa or Omega compatible, back in the days when I had no idea what mesh heads were, and thought that Catwa only made great hairs! Check out more pics here, and here.

Happy New Year 2017!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year in 2017! I wish you all health, wealth, and happiness for the coming year.

Did anyone go out and celebrate? I know there were lots of venues offering a variety of New Year’s Eve parties. Whether you celebrated in a grand way or a more subdued way, I hope you all had fun, and if you were imbibing alcoholic beverages, I hope you walked home and didn’t risk teleporting in an inebriated state!

I, myself, chose to celebrate the coming of the New Year, at one of my favourite clubs, The Willows Club. You may have read other posts of mine featuring this wonderful club, here, and here. The place was packed out, and for the first time I can remember, in all the years I have been going there, the sim was full and some people were unable to TP in.

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas – Part Two

I had a lovely stroll around the newly designed sim at The Forest Event recently. In keeping with my festive theme. They have turned their sim into a beautiful winter snow scene, with lovely trails to walk along, and, if one was so inclined, one could buy a ticket for the December round of the Event. I went and grabbed my goodies, and then couldn’t resist taking a few pictures along the way.

I started out wearing a new festive outfit from Boudoir, called The Christmas Buffet, a charming table/skirt, laden with Christmas munchies. I believe it also dispenses a hot beverage, but I confess I haven’t tried it. It is in typical Boudoir style, and utterly delightful.

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas – Part One

(because there is too much to cover in just one post!)

I do love all the festive fun and decor at this time of year! Snow everywhere, gifts abound, and fabulous Winter themed sims to explore. One such place was recommended by Strawberry Singh in her blog video – Firestorm with Bento Officially Released!  It is a stunning sim called – Let It Snow . Do go and check it out, there is a cute little village area, complete with red British Post Box and Phone Box!  I found a sleigh, filled with toys, and several white deer dotted about, and a gorgeous glass palace, or ballroom, or wedding venue, call it what you will. It reminded me of the British Crystal Palace as it may have looked many years ago. It is a stunning build by Boudoir, check out their Marketplace here  They say it is “created upon famous Palacio de Cristal from Madrid”.

I stopped for a glass of mulled wine, sitting in the gorgeous Crystal Palace

Look at the details on this huge Christmas tree, and my Snowman Sweater Dress looks perfect. It is my fave Christmas outfit this year. So many different designs in the HUD, and the shirt also has a hide function.

The Eyes Have It

I had been thinking about buying the new Catwa Mesh Eyes for quite some time, and finally decided to take the plunge and go for it, or rather, them. As with any mesh eyes, trying to fit them can be time consuming, but perseverance pays off. The eyes come with a texture HUD full of a great selection of colours and styles, including cats eyes, or are they demon eyes? If you don’t like any of the supplied textures you can always buy your own preferred ones, or, if you are so inclined, you could use the Dev Kit, that Catwa has also included in the pack, and have a go at making your own. My one (and only) complaint about these eyes is that the shading around the edge of the eye is too dark. It is a dark brown and it can make the eyes look like they are set too far back in the head. This is just my personal opinion, I am not a designer, I do not make eyes, and I don’t profess to be an expert in what eyes ‘should’ look like. That said, there were some lovely textures included, but I felt compelled to go look for ‘the exact texture’, whatever that was going to be. I had an idea of a two tone blue, so, my quest began! Several hundreds of Lindens later, I think I found ‘the’ one. I still feel compelled to look, and buy, more options, but my current ‘the one’ is a DeeTalez bicolor gold/blue one, from their Hypnotic range. I think they are stunning, and love the colouring.

  • Make Up: SlackGirl, Dana Shadow

My other choice, and a very close second, is the WOW Skins Mediterraneo set. Again, my fave choice is another bicolour blue one, and the textures are also very good.

If you decide to take the plunge into Mesh Eyes I hope you find your own personal fave, and maybe have a go at trying out your own versions? You could always do a copy of your own eyes, and be truly unique! Whatever you decide, have fun experimenting and feel free to share your views and tips in the comments!

People Come And People Go, Second Life Is Like That

I would often spend my Friday nights at a club and dance away to ‘Babymaking Music’, listening to the sultry voice of my Dutch DJ friend as he played his regular set of romantic tunes. He would always play a certain song for me, and I would always type out the chorus in local chat. That is what we did. He would greet guests in a variety of languages, conversing fluently with them to make them feel at home. He was talented, and funny, and in his own words a little crazy. He had a photographic memory, and would remember the teeniest details, as he brought forth a volley of quotes from many Monty Python films, that we both shared a love of. The Spanish Inquisition was often referred to during his sets, and he even had the red robes to complete the look!

I met him several years ago, through a mutual friend of ours, who is taking a break from SL, and he quickly became a valued friend to me also. In fact, it was via our mutual friend that I was able to discover why the ‘Babymaking Music’ had been silenced for several weeks, and the usual reminders to attend his sets had stopped dropping into my mail box. I learned that my Dutch DJ friend had passed away 5 weeks ago, and his music and dancing bunny slippers are now put to rest.

So often we meet people in our online world, they stay a while, and then, like a ship, they drift off silently into the night, never to return. Most times we are left to wonder where they are, and for some, we hope they will return, one day. I, at least, have the cold comfort of now knowing why the bunny slippers no longer dance, why the ‘Babymaking Music’ no longer plays.

This is the only photo I have of him, taken a very long time ago with our mutual friend. I am the one on the right.

He will not be forgotten, and I will play my favourite songs in his memory. Sleep easy my dear Dutch friend.

Today’s Faves – Glitter!

I am having a fun time with new make up right now, and this is one of my faves. The lashes are from a set by Shiny Stuffs called Glitter Glam. It is a palette of seven Glitter Eyeshadows, ten Glitter Lipsticks, and seven Glitter Lashes, the bottom lashes are plain black. The multi coloured, blue, aqua and pink, lashes are my current faves. I love the multicolored look, and they were the perfect match for the new eyeshadow set from SlackGirl called Augusta. This set comes in eight different colourways, all of them are equally stunning. I have used another of Shiny Stuffs sets for the lips, I chose a bright pink from their Ethereal Romance collection.

You can see more in depth coverage of these collections on my Make Up post – All That Glitters and Jewel Colours here.
